Just a few things to get rid of

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the clothing we are going to pack for our trip. So what about the rest of our stuff? We can’t take everything!

This process started this summer. With the help of Charo’s cousin Giovanna, we got the ball rolling by holding a yard sale with our neighbours. You never really realize how much stuff you accumulate until you start to box up things that you don’t need or use. Slowly but surely, we are going to reduce the amount of stuff we have. I’m hoping that we will be able to fit all of our things that we want to store in one of the rooms in the house and we will not have to rent a storage unit. As for furniture, when we rent the house, our intention will be to rent it fully furnished so all the furniture will be staying.

To start, we went through a lot of the kids clothing, that either didn’t fit or they wouldn’t wear. We also got the kids on board by selling some of their toys. What better incentive for them than to tell them they could keep what they earned. Charo and I then realized we could get rid of a few things as well. I reduced my own clothing by nearly half. Of course it also extended to household items we had no need for. I have to admit it felt really good to get rid of these things, and I felt better decluttering the house.

Since the yard sale, Charo and I have been on a mission to declutter, reduce and to get rid of things we do not have need for anymore. The picture above was just a few of the things that went this weekend. Much of the above were kids things. Why bother saving their clothes, after all they’re just getting bigger. Mateo and Marco already share most of their clothes! Oh, and don’t tell them, but we got rid of a whole garbage bag of stuffies!

Charo and I are also getting rid of some of our clothing. Since starting the Keto diet, I’ve lost almost 25 pounds, so I’m getting rid of a bunch of things that don’t fit anymore. Unlike the bags above, these are destined for a different destination.

Charo’s sister, Olga, joined another family and drove downtown and handed out food, and clothing to the homeless. This affected her deeply and decided to take her family and do it again, and she is calling it “Because we are one.” Olga will be going this Saturday, December 8th.

If you have something to donate, please feel free to contact me. You can drop things off at my place, or if you are closer to Brampton you can drop things off to her. She is looking for: Old scarves, gloves, socks, maxi pads, toothbrushes, combs, soap, razors, winter jackets, sweaters, jeans, sweatpants, shoes, runners, winter boots, rain coats… basically anything that can keep you warm during the winter.

As for the food, she is looking to provide a days meal for 75 to 100 people. If you are interested in donating to the food drive, please contact me and I’ll forward you what she is looking for.

Thanks for reading and Happy adventuring!
